The "massive" aspect refers to the deployment of a significantly large number of antennas, often hundreds or thousands, at the base station. With an increase in the number of antennas in a massive MIMO system, the radiated beams become more concentrated and spatially directed towards the intended user. The spatially focused antenna beamforming allows the system to improve communication links with intended users while minimizing interference in other directions.
